I am looking for information about my Eddie Stone rifle. It has a stamp on both the receiver and the barrel of a O with wings. I also has an eagle head with the number 4 behind it and the letter J stamped on the barrel. Also, just above the eagle head there is a V5. Also, on the barrel there is a K8 stamped. The serial # is 1198762. I received this gun from a good friend and would love to find out more.

hello,,your rifle is a model P-1917 US Military rifle,,in 1917 when the US entered ww1 there was a shortage of rifles ,,there were production facilities already set up produceing rifles for the british government making the P 14 enfield or pattern 14 enfield british rifle in 303 british caliber ,,when the US entered the war with the shortage of springfeild 1903 rifles Winchester ,remington and Eddystone changed over from the british caliber and started produceing the rifle in the 30-06 caliber..basically the rifles are the same except the caliber,,

,,,Eddystone was the arsenal that produced the rifles in Eddystone Pa.an eddystone should have the majority of the small parts marked E on a matching rifle ,,these rifles were used stateside mostly and were used thru ww2 and some were in combat but mostly as a home guard rifle ,,

,,value for a correct and nice example would be between 400-650 ,,unfortunatly many were sporterized after the war conflicts and many have been the starting point for many fine sporter rifles,, The action is concidered one of the best for high power sporting rifles because of the lenght and strenght ,,and have been used in calibers up to the 458 win mag,,
