Hello,

The value is dictated by several factors;

1. What is the exact vintage of the gun (the serial number tells us that)? Winchester manufactued the Model 1897 from 1897 through 1957. Those made prior to 1899 have a considerable premium due to being "antique".

2. The configuration and variation of the gun (e.g. barrel length, choke, barrel composition (rolled steel or damascus steel), etc. Winchester offered several distinctly different variations; Field grade, Fancy grade, Brush Gun, Trap Gun, Tournament, Pigeon Gun, Riot Gun, and Trench Gun.

3. The graded condition of the gun. In order for us to assess the condition, we need to see several clear close-up pictures of the gun.

Hello Wayne,

Your Model 1897 is most definitely not 116-years old. The marking on the slide bar indicates that it is an "E" series gun (the letter above the serial number), and that it was not manufactured any earlier than March of 1909. The serial number will tell me exactly when it was manufactured.

Wayne,

Your Model 1897 was manufactured in March of the year 1915. It is a standard Field grade gun. The value is approximately $500.
