if you want to buy one, how much can you afford would be the question. i'm not familiar with lee enfield or anyother british rifles for that matter and i've not found alot of them for sale.

hello xline,,enfields are an excellent choice for alot of fun shooting,,very acurate and fairly inexpencive both to buy and shoot,,the next thing you'll have to deceide on is which model ya want,,there were 2 basic models that were made in large numbers,,The NO.1 mkIII and and the NO4 mkI,,the no1's were britans main battle rifle during ww1 and saw alot of action during ww2 pricese for this model has started to climb in the last 3-5 years to between 125-250 for exceptionaly nice examples,,the other choice would be a NO4 mk1 which was basically the same action with a few minor changes in wood ,sites and bolt design,,a number of the no4s were built by savage for the british and these will be marked US Property with a S proof in a square box they have rizen in price also in the past 3-5 years but still can be found for 125 if ya shop around for british versions and the US versions ranging from 150-250,,but for the money there a cool milsurp thats fun to shoot and ammo is still fairly available but starting to go up some in price as with any other ammo right now.. another option if you don't want to fool with 303 ammo would be a 2A1 enfeild which was basically a no1 mkIII that the indian government converted to 308 caliber during the early days of the nato alliance to comply with nato ammo theroy of all nato forces using the same ammo,,these are usually found with new or like new barrels and shoot great,,they can stll be found for 175-250..those are the 3 most commonly found enfields on the markets today

Saw a rifle yesterday in CO for $350 and it looked like it had been through a few wars.

wow ,,was it gold plated?..i see them online at the auctions for under 200 pretty regulary,,,but if someone will pay the big bucks for 1 then i guess thats what they will pay,,i bet it was still sitting there at the end of the day unless there was some history behind it,,non-import stamped rifles will bring a preminum but 350 for a import sta, mped gun is just way overpriced in my eyes

About half of US troops in WWI were issued 1917 Enfields. Guy named Lee (American) designed the Lee Enfield and there wasn't that much diff (caliber) between the two. So there are many Enfields that are not foreign rifles.
There were just not enough Springfields to go around. See 03A3's in '06 for about the same price if not sporterized.
Find one with a "star" match barrel and have a good time.
