0f the 91,862 model 1886 rifles manufactured with octagon barrels only (5) had 25" barrel lengths, most were 26". I have one S# 7313 in great shape. Does the raiety of the lenghth of barrel increase the value? how much?

i don't show any refrence to the 25" barrel lenght barrel there are 26"and 24" barrels lenghts shown but nothing on a 25",,if it can be documented as 1 of the 5 you say were built then yes it would definatly increase the value but i wouldn't even venture a guess on how much,,my books tell me that there were 159,000 guns produced between 1886-1935 and yours was made in 1887 judging from your serial number ,,if it was only made in the production figures you stated then a hands on apprasial would definattly be advisable..the cody museum does historical research on winchester firearms and that may be your best bet on such a rareity

tks, for your input, and i will contact the cody museum, but trust me, according to authur pirkle's winchester books, volume 1 only 5 were produced, calibers not listed. Now since i need to sell or auction it what would you suggest?

hello again ..i beleive ya about the 5 only being made ..i just never herd of it ,,but i by no way call myself a winchester expert..yes the cody people will supply you with a letter and will be able to tell you poaaibly who bought it ,,they do charge a fee but the letter will be proof positive that the rifle is a rare one,,only 5 made in this configuration should be almost priceless to a winchester collector and with the letter who knows how much it may be worth..as for selling it..once you have the provanance i would go the auction route either online auctiom like gunbroker.com or auction arms,,that way you set the price and let demand bring the prices,,or even mabey a auction house..rock island auctions auction many highly collectable firearms ,,i'm sure this would be the best way to get the most outa what you have,,but you have to get some kind of history and provanance before hand to get the most outa it

Alfonzo,

Did you ever get an answer to your search about this rifle? I have some references at home I can check this evening.
