Hello all.

About 6 months ago I became a proud owner of Thompson/Center Encore rifle with a 26' bull barrel in .223 Remington. After handling rought stuff like 44 Mosin and SKS, Encore shoots like a dream. On the first outing, with a simple 4X28 scope, I managed to get 1' groups at 50 yards. My ammo was 55gr Sellier and Bellot. I'd say its rather good results with cheap ammo.

Now I want to go further. I have my sights set on the custom barrels that are sold by E Arthur Brown Company. Particularly 7.62x39 Russian barrel.

Now my question is: what length should it be? As you can see EAB offers an option of length to be from 16' to 26'. Romanian SAR's barrel length for 39's is 16'. For CZ 527 in that caliber its 18'. SKS and RPK 20'. Saiga is 20.5'.

Should it be short and light, or long and a bit heavier?

Please help,

Dear Eugene: Why mess around? If you want accuracy, go to the best for your next barrel. Virgin Valley or Bullberry are the Cadillac standard for custom TC barrels. - CW
