Unless this is a Stinger pen gun, it may be illegal in your State and is highly restricted and regulated by Federal law. It is treated much the same as a machine gun or other restricted firearm. It must be registered with the ATF and a stamp tax must be paid.

Are there any maker's marks on it?

There's no name markings on it, just two places that say made in the USA. The 2 pat. nos 17183 & 1775178 are the biggest lead I could find that'd indicate who might've made it.

I'm helping a friend find information on it btw, his dad found it, the information I get and am giving you I've received from him via email, please forgive me for slow responses or ones that aren't very helpful. I really don't think this'll help any but it might, it was found in California.

Thank you for the help so far and for the help that is to hopefully follow.

The second patent number is for the pen gun, patented in 1929 by a "Peter Von Frantzius". Nothing else is available.

Alright thanks, I'm waiting for my friend to tell me if there's any symbols at all right now. I'll let you know what he says as soon as possible.

With those 2 pat. nos there's no way to find a price range is there? He's more interested in the value than anything else.

Hard to put a value on it because of the restrictions. I believe it is illegal to sell it without having the tax stamp and ATF registration first and few will want to mess with it.

Oh ok, my friend didn't find any name or symbol to indicate the manufacturer just 2 light engravings of "Made In the USA". Just looking at the possible market and rarity of them could you take the best possible guess? Sorry I know it's a lot to ask for you with so little information.

It is impossible to say unless you can determine the manufacturer, what caliber it is (.22, .38, tear gas?), and whether it is in working condition. As I said, in many States value is irrelevant because they are illegal there. If it was a genuine legal Stinger brand pen gun, it would be worth $500-$750. A cheap legal off-brand pen gun might be worth $25-$50. Is there any indication on the box as to manufacturer.

I'm sorry that I can't be of help but you haven't provided enough information to go any further. It's kind of like asking, "I have this revolver. What is it worth?"

thanks for all the help. I understand it was asking a lot with that little information, so I appreciate it a lot. Thank you. And no indication of the maker was found on the box.
