It's a .32 or a .38 with the flip up barrel.

the h+r top break revolvers if functional were not an expencive firearm when they were made and many different models were made in both 32 s+w and 38 s+w,,if mechanically ok and checked by a gunsmith for timing and headspace with the proper ammo it shoud shoot ok,,but if it's a 38 cal DO NOT TRY TO SHOOT 38 SPECIAL AMMO IN IT UNLESS IT'S SPECIFICALLY CHAMBERED FOR 38 SPECIAL!!like i said most of the old chrome plated revolvers were chambered for the 38 smith and wesson cartridges and use of high pressure loads could be dangerous or fatel!! don't take chances with the old revolvers have them checked out before fireing!!!!
