Can anyone tell me name / publisher / year of the book used to help us value the guns posted ??
I would like to reference that when discussing sale of firearm to buyer and perhaps look up additional firearms in the future.
Thanks

hello again ,,well ther are many good refrence books out there and most dealers use the blue book of gun values for prices..but alot of them will show you an outdated issue which won't have up to date values to justify there low ball offers,,there about 40 bucks and come out every year and most dealer don't buy one every year ..i've seen some dealers with 10 year old books quoting prices out of ..i use it for serial number info and if i can't find something then i check it and adjust the price ,,i books i use most are the standard catalog of firearms 2008 edition..by dan shidler for most modern firearms ,,more helpful than the blue book because if has over 7500 photos and 6 condition grade ,,unlike the blue book that has only photos with grading pictures ,,no actual pictures with prices ..i use the standard catalog of military firearms 4th edition and i have the 2nd and third editions also by phillip pederson for any values for military firearms and bayonets ..invaluable refrence book for the military collector,,(both these are gun digest publications published by krause). i realize when i quote a book that dealers don't buy for these prices and usually there price is 1/2 or less because he's looking to make a profit and can't do that buying for book prices, thats why i usually say at auction or to a collector ,,and i have bought and sold over 500 guns for the gunshop i worked for so know that prices in the refrence books are realistic with proper listings ,pictures and descriptions ..to the right collectors..i'm currently working on a handbook for online buying and selling.. with the doos and don'ts of online auction gunsales ,like i said there are many good refrence books and i have 5 value refrence books and 11.. just information refrence books for just about anything that comes along..i also hit most gunshows in my local aera and many flea markets and estate sales and check table prices for many guns just to keep sharp with actual "sell" prices,,i also belong to many gun forums and will do research and price checking there also along with the major online gun auction sites,, ..but for the most part i use the standard catalogs ..i think there the best out there right now,,with the most information and easiest to use !

I agree with bigcurt but would add for pre-1898 the REQUIRED book to have is Flaydermans, the prices no good. (I don't think prices for pre-1898 guns are good in any book that the ink is dry in) You just have to use the prices listed to figure relative values. The antique market is just a different animal.
