I was given a Boito 12 ga. SxS for helping a friend sell his truck. It says, on the barrel,"Mfr. for Kmart Corp., Troy, MI".

What should I insure it for? And, what can you tell me about it?!?

The only insurance you need for this is for yourself if you plan to shoot it. Unfortunately they are a piece of junk even if like new anyone offers you a hundred take it and run... When they were new they were like $189.95.

I have shot it a few times and have had zero problems with it. Have you owned or shot one that gave you problems?!? I keep it next to the bed loaded, but not closed, for emergency needs. (we have no kids to worry about finding & "playing" with it.)

I don't think it would blow up but they are reported to be completely unreliable and the wood always cracks.
I use a hand safe for the P225 w/ night sights but the shotgun doesn't fit. My kids are well trained and I've even tested them. One way or another there's always a gun out for one reason or another. I have 4 large safes all pretty much full and I'm always fixing, selling, or something keeping them completely locked up is just impossible.
