My new Sheriff has tasked me to find a way to fund a new Firearms range for our department. Anyone with any experience in gaining grants please reply. He wants to get started as soon as he takes office in January. Thanks for your help.

I don't have experience is gaining grants but I have few ideas that might help,

Collecting and selling old firearms, doing an open day when people with gun license can come and practice in the range with maybe a price to the best shooter.
I hope you'll think of something but why not ask for the money in the conventional way?
The procedure shouldn't be much different to all other requests for budget that your department gets.
If I misunderstood try to explain the situation further.

My thoughts exactly, I've been involved in many grant applications both state and federal but always for education. In this part of the South, North Florida, most of the $$ used to open and opporate ranges comes from drug forfitures and other criminal assets seized, that said the money to opporate a range should come out of training funds. As for grants you just need to research to see whats available and do the paper work. IMHO
