hello,,i'm not sure if it's what you have or not but there was a Stephen Grant that produced custon made shotguns and rifles that were established in 1867 in england,,if this is what you hava they are very expencive shotguns and would be worth contacting the fir overseas about historical research ,,i can give you there info if it's what you have ..have you had the barrels off? you may find some english proofs on the water table (the flat inside the receiver where the barrels rest when closed) or mabey on the underside of the barrels,,if you see proofs then it may be one of the above,,it should have serial numbers on both aeras and they should match ,,if it isn't a stephen grant model ,,i'll check a couple more books i have and see if i can find any other company that used the grant name and post what i find,, we goyya figure out who made it before we can really give ya any real numbers but the stephan grant gun prices are very high and the lowest grade of 60% is valued at 5,000..but don't get your hopes up till your sure!

very nice pics..good job.. heres what i see from the pics ,,definatly a nice old shotgun and it definatly has british proofs the pic with the bottom of the barrel is a Birmingham definative black powder proof for and seen on british shotguns ..so it is british ,,the firm i told you about is british so it may be your best place to start,,it's not going to be a common shotgun and is proably a 1 of a kind custom made and it could be very valuable.. i'll see what else i can find from the pics..

heres the firm in england that does historical research on grant guns,,Atkin-Grant and Lang they do historical research on older stephan grant shotguns and double rifles,,they charge a fee for researching it but it sure would be cool to find out who originally owned it if possible..would definatly increas the value if it is one of ther guns to have the provanance to go with the heirloom.

looks like i'm s-o-l they wrote me back and said thanks for the pics but it is not a steven grant. now i'm really stumped. guess i'll have to wait for the antique gun show to hit reading to get some more insight.
