Hi All,

I recently mailed in an application for a Florida concealed carry permit. I just received a 'notice of error of omission' letter from them (it's Saturday, so I can't call them today) saying:

'The Firearm Instructor's license number an signature is required on the training certificate. The instructor must be certified by the NRA, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, or the Department of State.'

My application included a certificate for a NRA 'Personal Protection Course.' This certificate has the instructors name, but not the license number. There is no place on the certificate for the instructors name. Note: I used this same certificate to get permits in applications for both Colorado and Utah. According to the Florida application instructions 'A photocopy of any 'NRA firearms training certificate' meets the training requirement. (Note: I sent this certificate).

There were many other training documents that would also meet the 'training requirements' according to the instructions.

I will contact Florida permit people on Monday...... but in the mean while does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? I have about 20 days now to satisfy this 'omission' or forfeit my application (money which I can't afford).

Your ideas/suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Contact your instructor and ask him/her for their NRA instructor's number. Write that number on the signed certificate and resubmit it. I too had the same problem. Funny that a friend of mine sent his in the same day as me with the same certificate (minus number) and he didn't get a delay.

Guess I am just 'lucky' in things like this...

you answered your own question: contact them by phone on Monday (get NAMES and EXACT instructions) and go from there - sounds as though there is a bureaucratic screw-up on their end, as you seem to have satisfied the requirement; per their qualification instructions.

There is also a Fla website for conceal permit information.

Jake, you didn't say what the ommission on the application was so it is hard to tell you what to do. I think that you are doing the best thing by calling them.

These are going to sound like silly questions but have to be asked. Did you send the finger print card? Did you send the color photo? You didn't say. Did you sign the application? Did you send the necessary fees in the form of a cashier's check or money order? They do not accept personal checks.

I know these are silly questions, but a friend of mine forgot to send the money with his application, so it does happen.

The letter indicated that they wanted the instructors NRA id on the NRA Personal Protection Course certificate. There isn't a place for this info on the certificate. The Florida application instructions do not mention this requirement. I have to assume that's what they want. I was very careful to send all they ask for. I will know more tomorrow when I talk to them. Thanks......

Jake, what did the folks in Tallahassee have to say about your problem?

They ask me to print the instructor's id on the training certificate and fax it in. I did this. I didn't want to argue with them at this point in time even though their own application instructions clearly say a NRA training certificate would satisfy their training requirements. Seems as though this has been a problem with a number of people applying for a FL permit.

What one gets used to in Florida, is that they do things 'differently' here, than in other States of the Union. Since we were victims of the War of Northern Aggression down here, one way of 'exerting our authority' over others, is to slow down the permitting process It took me over six months to finally get my permit years ago. Every thirty days, I'd receive another reason why my papers weren't in order. Finally, I called my State representative and complained about it, and mysteriously, my permit showed up in a couple of days. Amazing. If you don't live within the State, all one can do is to jump through any hoop they put in front of you. I found out about the NRA license # while doing NRA gun safety courses long ago. Some of my student's permit papers were sent back to them, and they immediately let me know about it. Geeeeesh, what a pain in the butt. However, if that is what the State wants, then that is the way it will be. Sorry for the way it is, but I wish you well.
