Estate sale find. two original GI bring back Nazi 98ks with matching serial#s, all waffenapts, original slings, and locking/capture screws.
One is a "243" 1940, with a 10"inch cleaning rod, the other, bcd 1943 with 12" rod.
Metal shows some rust but blue mostly intact. some digs and gouges in stocks.
What are these going for these days?

hello,,nice find ,,both rifles are pretty good the 243 is a mauser werke AG and was made in berlin in 1940,,the other bcd is a Gustloff werke/werk weimermade in weimar germany..they bothe should value from 450-600 depending on how correct the stocks are and the waffenamps stamped on them,,the stocks i beleive have 6 or 7 proofs if memory serves me right,,should be 3 behind the sling cutout on the right side proably a eagle ,,a eagle with a number underneith and possibly a N,,then under the wrist there should be 3 eagles maybe with numbers,,,the stock may have a serial number on it that should match the receiver ,,these are things that collectors look for on these and if all matching with correct stocks values are the higher end of the spectrum and maybe more to the right collector,,as for your question on the cleaning rods ,,the way i understand it is the 12 is too long in a 10" gun but the 10 would work in a 12 " but be short and wont screw in,, they should be threaded on the one side and they screw into a nut imbedded in the stock not visable unless you remove the action/barrel group,,so only the proper rod will screw in and be the correct lenght.. there are sites devoted to k-98 mausers and i'd suggest you do some internet surfing and check the waffs and stock markings ,,i can't remember exactly the link for them but i can give you a good forum with tons of info on these ,,its gunboards .comthey have a mauser section that has answeres to just about any question you can imagine ,,it's a good place to start with original k-98s and there will be plenty of links there that should help you and also alot of mauser experts that can clear up the cleaning rod issue,,i don't collect just mausers i have a k-98 bringback that i reasearched quite a bit but that was years ago when i got it and have lost the links i had saved when my computer crashed ,,sorry thats the best i can do for ya ,,if ya have trouble finding links let me know and i'll see what i can come up with..

Thank-you very much for a ton of great information. It will be of great help in doing further research. The stock of the '243' 1940 rifle is marked: Butt below ring on rt. side- sm. eagle H, large eagle WaA 26 and another sm. eagle and WaA and #s. Wrist behind trigger guard: large eagle WaA 26, sm. eagle 26. Below hand grip: P and (serial #)3659 U, followed by two more eagles and #s, obscured by dings, but appear to be WaA 26.
The bcd 43. starting from the right face below ring:
large eagle WaA 35, overstamped on the left by 8-point star. Wrist behind guard: D and remnants of WaA 35. Below handgrip: hard to read, but appears to be H869 followed by (serial #) 6166 and digs where eagles could have been. There is an "0" in the bolt cutout, and a "W" on the top of the wrist below the bolt ramp. This stock shows much more use than the 243, but the 243 has some deep gouges from being dropped or struck in combat.
