This past weekend I was watching the T.V. show,Antique Road Show.I know a little corny for you sport fans but I like that old junk anyway especially when someone whips out a gun.
Well some young guy had a Dragoon. The short story goes his great grand father found it in the woods many moons ago in Texas and though it looked like hell and didn't work it stayed in the family until now.Now the owner thought it was a Colt but the appraiser said it wasn't however he said with a (-: smile on his face, good thing it wasn't because in that condition a colt Dragoon would only be worth around $5000.Yikes $5000 I say as my eyes were glued on this rusty, broken gun while the suspense is killing me.
Now comes the BIG one, He said this gun was made in Texas for the confederate army and is worth $30 to $40.G's,yes thousands.Well my jaw hit the floor but in my mesmerized state I didn't get the name of the company that made it and It's been driving me nut ever since.I did an internet search but nothing on a Texas Dragoon.Anyone ever hear of such a company or see the show. The name David or Davis (not affiliated I assume with the POS .25 calb ghetto guns) comes to mind but don't think that was it.What differed it from a colt is it didn't have recoil sheals behind the cylinder,Just a flat sided frame with nipples exposed on both sides. This brain fart is killing me.
Oh this even gets better, did I mention its serial # was 28,coincidently the appraiser said #29 was going up for action soon. Guess I know where I'd be unloading #28 for possibly more then $40,000...

It was a Dance revolver. Lots like the Colts but lacking the recoil shield. I was watching the same episode a few nights back. I too love old doodads and widgets and enjoy the minor and not so minor treasures that show up on that show...

Gun was made by the Dance Brothers. They were the only Confederate makers (supposedly) to copy the big frame Colt Dragoon rather than the smaller 36 Navy or 44 Army models. Factory was SE of Dallas around Lancaster, I

Dance Revolver. Not many produced, darn few survived. Some 200 or so are known to exist.
