US Army rifle is the M24. Remmy 700 action trued, etc. 5R M24 profile barrel with HS Precision M24 stock. Scope is Loopy 10X Mk4 M3. Bottom metal is or used to be Winchester M70. Also has provision for removable back up iron sights (Redfield ?). The barrel has a mount for the front sight dovetailed into the barrel.
Marines use the M40 again a trued Remmy action but with a version of the McMillain M40 stock. Stock version depends on version of rifle. Believe the current version is M40A3. If I remember correctly weights in the neighborhood of 17 lbs. Current scope is 10X Unertl.
As for police, it depends on the department there is no standard.

#, thanks guys, gun show coming soon want to # get one! thanks, # Don't think you will be getting one-unless you enlist. The USMC makes their own. You must have missed the episode earlier in the week, which focused on the USMC scout-snipers. Supposedlly, it is pretty close to a Remington 700, accurized of course.

Both the Army and Marine snipers' bolt-actions are Remington-700 derivatives.
Considering their effective ranges are considerably longer than the typical police engagement (800m for the M24 and 100yds for the M40-series, IIRC), a 24' barrel is used.
The Army version (M24 Sniper Weapon System) uses the long action for use with magnum rounds (for possible future conversion to the .300 Winchester Magnum) and the USMC models (M40A1 and M40A3) use the shorter action although both currently fire the .308 Winchester.
The Marine versions use a McMillan synthetic stock the latest model (M40A3) with an adjustable cheek piece.
The Army model and the latest Marine model (again, M40A3) are also fitted with a Harris Bipod.
Further information on the Marine Rifles can be found on the USMC's website under 'Equipment Fact Files' with essentially duplicate info on the Equipment Guide area of Military.com.
