This is the 5th time that I've full-legnth resized my cases. I'm shooting pretty hot loads, 300 grain hollow points with 57 gr. of Reloader 7. I really lube the cases well before sizing. After this sizing I noticed the small dinges about 5/8' below the case mouth. Any idea why? Would you folks still use this cases.

I would compare the dinge to the small ones that you can get on a bottleneck cartridge if you over lube it.

What you might be getting are oil dings, from the excessive lube. Dings won't hurt, but splits will.

How long has it been since you cleaned your resizing die?

Yeah. No problem. The dings will probably be gone after you fire them.

Sometimes when you put too much lube on a case, it will cause little indentions in the brass. It really doesn't take much lube, just use enough to keep the case from sticking, and just a little in the case neck..bpf

Look among the threads on the side of the sizing die and you'll find a tiny 'bleed' hole. Poke a pin, paper clip, or a needle through it to clean it out. Bill Van Houten (USA Ret)

The 45-70 is not a strait case it has a taper to it. Bingo Too much lube on the case. You should just feel the lube less is better then more. Just like the bottleneck cases but not like pistol cases. The lube does not get pushed down it gets pinched in the sizing die. Alan
