What differentiates a Colt SAA from the New Frontier model? I'd like to buy one this year but I'd rather get a shooter (2nd or 3rd gen?), than a collector. Any advice from the Colt experts out there?

The SAA has a blade front sight and a channel down the top strap with a notch in the frame for a rear sight. The New Frontier has a ramp front sight a flat top strap and a fully adjustable rear sight. Otherwise the guns are the same.

If memory serves me right, then the main difference is adjustable sights on the New Frontier Model.

gar, The New Frontier has a flat topstrap (top of the receiver), adjustable sights and a rectangular blade front sight. What was it you plan to buy, the New Frontier or the SAA? The SAA has a groove along the topstrap that acts to align the front sight. Any 3rd generation variation of either of the above, even a shooter, is going to cost at least $1,000.00 American.
