Your Winchester lever-action rifle is a Model 92. If you examine the numeral digit with a magifying tool, you will see that it is a deeply stamped "9".

Oddly, this is the third time we have answered this exact question in just the past few months.

mayurdipsinh gohil,

Can you please tell me the serial number of your rifle? I am conducting a survey and have cataloged 2300 rifles so far. Can I also get a detail photo of the barrel address, caliber stamp, and the upper tang stamp please?

Thanks
Michael

Jerry,

It is NOT a Model "82", and there is absolutely no truth what so ever to the statement

Winchester has claimed that not all models have been listed since the company changed hands many times during the earlier years.

The Winchester Repeating Arms Company did not "change hands" at anytime from its inception (in late 1865) until is was acquired by Olin Industries in early 1931 (bought out of bankruptcy). Olin sold the original Winchester factory and company to the U.S. Repeating Arms Company (USRACo) in January of 1981. The USRACo was bought by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in the early 1990s, and they shutdown the original factory in New Haven, CT in March of 2006. The current company that is using the "Winchester" name is a division of the Browning Firearms company, and they acquired the rights to use the trade marked "Winchester" name from the Olin corporation.

Production of the Model 1892 ("92" after April of 1919), began in April of 1892, and it ended in August of 1942. As we have repeatedly stated, Winchester never manufactured a Model "82" lever-action. It is simply a case of the "9" digit being very deeply stamped, and in doing so, it almost closes the loop on the bottom tail portion of the "9" digit.

Your Model 92 was manufactured in September of 1920. We need to see several clear detailed pictures of the gun before a value assessment can be made.

Hello Jerry,

As Bert stated we do need some photos of the rifle in order to help further. Please read the following:
What I Need http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/give-me-what-i-need- 294224.html

In order to assess the condition and determine the value of the rifle I will need to see some good photos. Please take a look at the following link and get back to me, I will be glad to help - http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/how-to-take-pictures-of- your-gun-4-quick-tips-that-save-time-and-yield-better- results-1420.html

Please include a photo of the barrel address, caliber stamp, and the upper tang stamp. I am conducting a research survey of the Model 1892 rifles and with these I can add your rifle into the work and give you a detailed idea of its originality and how it fits into the changes made during production.

Thanks
Michael
