hello,,this is kind of a stickey situation ,,because most of these will be chambered for the 38 s&w cartridge ,,but some were chambered for the 38 special but if should be marked 38spc if it was a special ,,i'd say it should be 38 S&W which is a shorter cartridge than a regular 38 special,,and they "do not interchange"if in doubt have a gunsmith check it out before you damage the gun or yourself!

Thanks bigcurt, must be 38s&w because the cylinder is too short for special.

Is it the 38 SW? I bought a 1925 Colt Police Positive. I tried to load a 38 special cartridge but it is too large. I bought a few old 38 colt (short rounds) they would not work either. I cannot find 38 SW ammo anywhere to try that? I see there is an obsolete ammo supplier that has 38 SW - do you think that will work?

Colt made 2 models, standard & target. Cal. as follows ".22 long rifle, .22 WRF , .32 colt long & short, .32 colt new police, .38 colt new police, .32 s&w , ,38 colt new police, .38 s&w. ( These all came in the colt police positive revolver). Barrel lengths = 2 1/5", 4", 5" , 6". Your .38 new colt police also will interchange with .38 s&w short. I would try the oldwesternschrounger.com for ammo. He has had it in the past. Also Black hills ammo may just have what you are looking for. Discontinued
ammo sometimes are hard to find , search the web for more possibility's. Trying to help always....................JOE
