I've been looking at 1911s recently and am considering getting a basic model. The two I am considering are the Springfield Armory Mil Spec and Colts' plain Jane 1911A1. Both of them look pretty nice and I've heard good thing about both of them. But before I decide on one or the other I'd like to get some opinions from somebody who knows more about them. Like which is more accurate, which one has the most plastic parts, or MIM parts compared to steel ones, things like that. Any help would be appreciated, also what they are going for and who has the best prices would be nice too. Thanks.

I don't know the details on how it's made, but I've been very happy with my MilSpec. I believe the only differences between it and the original 1911A1 is a bigger ejection port and the integral trigger lock, which is a CA approved lock, if you live there. Mine ran $460, but I see them occasionally as low as $420 new. Overall, Springfield seemed to have a better reputation for customer support than Colt, but I haven't needed it. They also make a stainless version now for maybe $50 more.

Mine's very accurate and very reliable with everything I feed through it, from guns show reloads to various defense rounds to US milsurp ammo. The sights are good, for basic 3 dot sights, the trigger is crisp and clean, the grips are comfortable (the only plastic parts), and everything is very tight on it. I've had to dehorn the mag well because of sharp corners that kept pinching me, but that's the only mod so far. I'll probably pick up some nicer grips someday.
