mMy Colt Handgun is in rather poor condition.Someone told me that if I have it referbished that it takes away from the vaue.Is this true?

If it's an old antique restoring or even cleaning it heavily would be a huge mistake, if it's more modern probably will cost more to refinish then your "possibly" increase value.
