Hi guys. My dad just brought me his 1911 model Colt .45, I'm curious if any one can tell me what year it was manufactured, how rare it is and it's possible value? The right side of the slide says "MODEL OF 1911. U. S. ARMY". Just above the right hand grip it says UNITED STATES PROPERTY and just below that No. 6042XX. The gun is well worn and I can not really make out what the last two numbers in the serial number are. The right side has Patented and there are five patent dateswith the most recent one being AUG 19 1913 after the patents there is some spacing and it says COLT'S PTF A MFG CO. above HARTFORD, CT U.S.A. If any one here can help me out on info that would be great!

hi jason,
check out these #s on this site, looks to be late 1918 to early 1919.

You can contact Colt Manufacturing and have them do a history report on your 1911. You will get a paper showing the date of birth...yes I said date of birth. Colt's are born not built.

Hey my name is John. Take care of your gun. I had the same hand gun and it said made in 1913. I had a so called friend steal mine. Do not trust anyone and if you are not careful they will switch it with you for a look a like dummy gun and you will not know until it is to late.It happened to me so be careful and enjoy.
