Can somebody help me? Armscor and other less-expensive 1911s are 'investment cast', whereas Colt and other high-end 1911s are 'cold hammer forged' (or something like that, i don't remember the exact term.)
What's the exact difference, and is it true that the 'investment cast' process produces softer steel?

Ruger guns are primarily investment cast and have a good reputation for mechanical strength.
