Hi,

Ijoined this group because I need to sell my dad's two guns and had questions re: value etc.

Well, I got an email from this person wanting to buy the guns and wanst so meet me halfway between our locations. He said he would pay cash.

Why am I thinking this is probably not a good scenario? I thought there was a law passed a few years back making the requirements for buying and selling firearms a lot more stringent. I doubt we can conduct such a transaction in the parking lot of a supermarket.

And my thoughts as to why someone would sidestep the legal paperwork are not pretty. I keep thinking, I sell him the guns, without paperwork, he goes and shoots someone and I will be posting to this board via the women's prison in Southern Calif.

hello again,,be cautious when selling to someone you don't know! it's leagal to sell your longuns to anyone who can legaly own firearms in your state ,,mabey ask the emailer to meet you at a gunshop of your choice ,,then you can do the paperwork and be done with them..if he's ok with that then there shouldn't be a problem,,your dads guns proably weren't regestered when he bought them if they were bought before the gun control act of 1968 but for your protection don't meet a stranger somewhere your not comfortable with!!,,check your local phone book for a gunshop in your aera,,give them a call and ask them if they can do a transfer for you ,,the buyer should pay for the transfer fee and the insta check ,,then if he can own a firearm there isn't a problem,,always better to be safe than sorry.. alot of times people will try to get around the paperwork fees when purchasing guns and don't want the hassels of filling out paperwork but in this case you gotta do what you think is right....don't take any chances !just ask the buyer if theres a problem having the guns transfered at a local shop of your choice,,if he says he doesn't want to go that route then tell him i have to have these transfered or i can't sell them,,,if you find a gunshop locally give them a call and ask what they charge to transfer guns and what the regulations for private party sales between two people from the same state are.. and see what they tell you.. thats way you will definatly know how to legaly sell them and not fear reprocussions,,if your out there in the republic of ca.your regulations are alot more stringant than some states and you gotta make sure you cross your t's and dot your i's when dealing with firearms..
