Cap’n Bob brings us an infuriating story of a Californian murder
I read a heartbreaking story the other day. A woman is on the phone with 911 to report a burglar in her home. Dispatchers hear gunshots, then silence. When deputies arrive, the homeowner is dead. Her husband arrives a few minutes later, only to be told that his wife is dead. News reports say “he collapsed and started to cry, saying ‘No! She just called me. You lie.’”

The murder in question occurred in California - whose gun control laws make it one of the most difficult places to obtain firearms for protection. The laws are intimidating - people who would like to buy a gun for self-protection find themselves faced with absurdly-high fees and a myriad of red tape not seen in most states. The ultra-liberal majority in California state politics is as culpable for murders like this as are the perpetrators who pull the trigger of a stolen or illegally obtained gun.
One can’t argue with most of the above, but that is, to my opinion only half the picture: for example - were did the criminals gun come from originally? (probably stolen from someone who bought it legally) How many people are injured and killed every year by mishandling of fire arms in the home (often kids who found the gun daddy didn’t hide very well…) I do agree that the gun bans need to be enforced first of all on the criminals, unfortunately that is more easily said than done. And also - 911 and the police need to make a much bigger effort to be in the right place at the right time for a much higher percentage of incidents. Although I obviously think very differently than Cap’n Bob - I can certainly see were he is coming from.
