I'm in the mood for an AR15. What will California permit? The DOJ site isn't very helpful. As far as I know I'm limited to common SKSs, Ruger Minis, and M1As.

Do you know of - - a California legal; semiautomatic; rifle caliber, such as .223, 7.62x39, .308, or other common cartridge; detachable magazine; accurate; quality firearm?

Please don't respond by email. I'll check back for responses. Thanks!

Sorry, you pretty much answered your own question, with the exception of traditional hunting rifles.

A Browning BAR as long as it does not have a bolt on flash suppressor (I am not sure a BOSS would get you in trouble) would work. A M1 Carbine without the clamp on flash suppressor would work as well.

Its a long way from an AR15 to an 18 pound BAR. An M1 carbine is ok but the cartridges are on the low powered side and not on par with a 5.56 or a 7.62x51. Best bet in California is an accurized Mini-14 or a good M14/M1A

How about the Mini-30?

While not having owned one, my understanding is that a stock Mini-30 is even more inacurate than a stock Mini-14. I imagine you could get the Mini-30 accurized with a heavier barrel, etc., but the .223 is already a very good round. If you did want to get a .308 caliber, I think an M14/M1A would be a better overall choice.

I'd like to hear from people who have purchased and used a FAB10, fixed 10 round magazine AR styled firearm legal in CA. Anyone? Feedback, results, caveats, go for its?

I've been looking for the same thing, and I spoke to a guy at the gun show recently who owns one that he had built on the receiver. He said his gunsmith had to do a bit of fitting on it, and it was a real pain to load, but it shoots just like an AR-15 aside from that. I asked about an easier-to-remove pin to break it open, and he said the manufacturer was looking into it.

I believe I'll be getting a Fab 10 receiver fairly soon, as it would be fairly easy to build into a finished gun, and all the parts would be usable on a real AR-15 if I moved to some other state. It just seems like a better bet than a Mini 14 if all you do is range shooting with it. Not the best bet for a SHTF gun, though.

# # # Best bet in California is an accurized Mini-14 ... # # # # What's that? # # A Ruger Mini-14 is a 'downsized' civilian replica of a # US M14 rifle. The original M14 was chambered for a # .308 caliber, and the Mini-14 is .223 caliber. ...

You've been had. It was a joke, questioning just how =accurized= any Mini-14 could ever be.
