I was wondering what year my Sweet sixteen was manufactured and an estimate on it's worth. Sweet Sixteen is engraved on the left side and the serial number is 2S93777. also on the left side of the barrel the stamping says BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS Mo. & MONTREAL P.O. underneath that in small writing it says SPECIAL STEEL-16 GUAGE-SHELLS 2 3/4" there are also some other markings that I really don't know what they mean? Hopefully that is enough info to at least get an idea about this shotgun.
The 2S prefix tells us it was made in 1962 and it's a Sweet Sixteen. The other markings are probably Leige proofmarks.
The value is based on the condition and barrel type.
70% plain barrel $500
90% plain barrel $725
70% vent rib $775
90% vent rib $1050
Let me know if the gun is in mint condition.
I don't know much about how guns are graded as far as condition.... But it is a vent rib....it has a couple very small rust spots where the rib starts on top of the barrel and maybe two minor dents in the wood stock.... Other than that I would say the gun is mint condition.
Although they are small is it possible to remove the rust spots without damaging the original finish?
Take gun oil and rub rust with a soft cloth. Remove what you can. Soak it in a light coat of oil and let it sit overnight. Repeat wiping with the oil cloth. If it doesn't come off, use 0000 steel wool with oil and lightly rub. Any rust left after that has eaten through the finish and removing it would damage the finish and likely show bare metal.
