I pulled one of my shotguns out of the gunsafe this past weekend and it looks like there are some dull spots on the wood stock that look like mildew. What is the best method to remove the mildew and restore the glossy finish to those spots.

hi dakota,
if your rifle has an oil finished stock all you need to do is rub it down with more oil. i like lindseed but if its a hard finish and the mildew is under the finish you'll have to remove the finish clean the mildew and refinish the stock. I have a win mod70 that developed some mildew under the finish and i tryed heating the points affected on the stock with limited success. JMHO

Hi Kim,
The linseed oil worked great, thanks for the advice. By the way in the "question and answer" section I posted a question about the value of a Weatherby XXII 22lr semi auto with tube feed built between 1964 and 1989 and I don't think it's ever been fired. Do you have any thoughts on the approximate value......Thanks, Dakota
