Being Reactive - It Never Ends

Have you noticed that after each time that a shooting takes place in some place there is an immediate call to ban guns at similar locations?
I don’t know why people are always trying to defend against the shooting that already occurred and miss the fact that it is never the same thing twice.
On call me Ahab I’ve seen a recent discussion on the churches and gun control. The previous post here discussed the attempt to ban guns from parks because of a shooting at a picnic.
Maybe the idea could work in a world where no one has any guns but limiting the rights for self defense because some people can get crazy? That’s like saying that all people should have a psych evaluation before having a permit to live.
The only way to counter such random attacks is to have a more balanced policies. For an act of madness most people would get a gun license or no license so just take a deep breath and stop the reaction.

There was a shooting in Moscow Idaho about a year ago. A very disturbed man killed his wife and a church worker. He then ambushed two police officers, killing one. He turned his own gun on himself afterword. The killer had a history of mental illness and right before the attacks had threatened to kill his wife and anyone who got in the way. The psych doctor had just released him from the hospital. The weapons, ak47 and m1a1, had been purchased legaly. I’m not sure why he was released, but after being deemed psychotic and suicidal he should have been watched very close and had any weapons confiscated. The system failed, very tragic. The result was the mayor demanding a ban on all fire arms in the city limit. Being a college town the typical liberal outcry backed the mayor. I’m glad the Constitution trumps hysterical politics. The mayor and her staff can play on fear all they want, but they have no legel leg to stand on. In my opinion, the nut job could have and should have been stopped before he snapped. Maybe the police should focus on people who shouldn’t own guns rather than law abiding citizens who have the right to.
