Last night on the local news, they covered a story which is a good 'Armed Citizen' story. An ex-boyfriend broke into a woman's home and said he was going to kill her. She shot him five times with a 9mm. He is currently in the hospital in critical condition. The police have withheld names. I just have to love it when a woman knows how to shoot and successfully defends

I agree: it is a wonderful story and an exciting thing. I think the only way it could have been better would be (1.) for the ex-boyfriend to have died on the spot

I wish they'd have released more details. I also had to laugh at the male anchor who was obviously uncomfortable reporting the story. LOL.

Let's make believe a second.

She and he had recently broke off the relationship. Let's say she dumped him. He is upset. She is upset. Then:

He breaks in her abode and threatens to kill her. She shoots him dead. Or...

She is very upset with him and for some reason, has a motive (perhaps only known to her) for wanting him dead. She argues with him in front of witnesses, and tries to steer him into making statements hinting at violence towards her. Later, without any witnesses, she invites him to drop by her abode. Only it's a deadly trap. She has the gun ready. He comes there under the notion that perhaps she wants him back. He enters the abode. When she is confident no one knows what's going on, she shoots him dead. Then claims he threatened to kill her and that her shooting was justified self defense.

Okay now, that is all just hypothetical but a real possibility. We weren't there so we can't know. It would be well advised for the police to investigate with care. I find it a bit odd (I'm not saying impossible of course) for an unarmed man to threaten to beat/strangle someone to death and then proceed to attempt it when confronted by firearm. I think I'd be looking real close at the forensics and matching it to her story.
