Yesterday, I noticed a little cut on the bridge of my nose. I do not remember receiving the injury. At first, I thought it was from my eye glasses. However, they are smooth plastic frames, not wire. The frames cannot even touch the nose where the cut is. The cut is offset a bit to the right. I am guessing the charging handle on my AR-15 nailed me. Perhaps I should switch back to the Remington 700 until the nose is healed.

The main trouble that I have been having with my offhand shooting is that about one round in ten, I have some lapse of concentration and shots go astray. A couple days ago, I fired a 30 round group offhand, and all shots remained in the black of an SR-1 at 100 yards. Several shots were just barely nicking the black, but all were in it. I think the stray outliers are starting to get under control, but 30 rounds is hardly enough to make any sort of a meaningful statement about anomalies.

In the past, I had good luck with S&B 55gr ammo. Then, I got a batch with oversized brass that will chamber OK in a Mini-14, but not in the tight match chamber on my AR-15. Therefore, I switched to Winchester Q3131A. It is working fine so far. So was S&B until I shot about 10 times as much of it as I have with the Winchester, so we shall just wait and see.

I had taken to wearing body armor while shooting a while back. I ultimately decided that the level IV ceramic plates (rated to stop AP .30/06) were probably going to break my neck, since they weigh 9.5 pounds a piece. I switched to just wearing the kevlar. A few days ago, I bought a little ceramic mini-rifle plate, 5'x8', rated for non-AP rifle ammo when used in conjunction with the kevlar. It is very light weight and compact. It is definitely a practical thing to wear, although it is really very limited coverage. I contemplate getting some of the polyethylene plates, 8'x10', 3.5 pounds a piece, rated for non-AP rifles. However, I blew my toy budget on a night vision scope, and shall not be buying any more toys for quite some time.

Hmmm. Since the charging handle on an AR15 normally doesn't move when you fire - only when you manually charge the chamber - and there isn't very much recoil with a .223 round, I'm having a hard time imagining how it might've nailed you.

Dunno 'bout the cut, but I'd go to a different range!

Unless the charging handle latch is broken or the place where the latch hooks on to the upper reciver is worn/broken...

How new is this gun?

Held loosely, not tight into the shoulder at all, perhaps. Cheekweld such that his nose is *right down* on the charging handle? It wouldn't be enough to take the man out, but I can see it thwacking his schnoz enough to draw a little blood.

Hmmm.

I always put my nose on the charging handle. That's how I keep a consistant check weld. And I don't hold the rifle tight at all. Sound like something else is going on.
