What restrictions exist to travel for a hunt with a black-powder rifle? If one wants to fly within the US or say, to Africa? I'd suspect the airlines might have problems with BP in the luggage? What's a hunter to do?

A commercial airline carrier will have in place the same restrictions and policy for traveling with a modern firearm (must be unloaded and cased in a lockable hard shell case). Ammunition must be in a separate container and restrictions apply over total amount. In regards to black powder.....I doubt that you will be able to fly with bulk black powder or pyrodex. If your firearm uses conventionally loaded cased ammo that happens to be loaded with black powder that may be another story.
I would try to make certain that you can get propellant and primers at your destination rather than attempting to transport them.

Weel i don't know about the rest of the group but I wouldn't want to be on a plane with a can of BP in the hold. If its loaded in brass cartridges well that might be different.

What I did was to load a bunch of shotgun shells that were mostly BP. the airline had no trouble with ammunition.
When I got to my destination I simply opened the shells and recovered the

Specifically exempted as it is an explosive. Smokeless powder is not and barring extreme heat, will not ignite inside a shell that's packed

IIRC, the regs do not mention anything about the propellant used, just 'self contained metallic cartridges or shells'. You are not allowed to pack bulk gunpowder of any kind.
