I came across a Remington Wingmaster 12 GA Magnum on a used gun rack in a nationally known sporting goods store this week that seemed to be virtually unfired. I could not find any wood blemishes or bluing wear inside the receiver surfaces, or any bolt face cartridge head contact impressions. No mars or scratches of any kind were visible....anywhere. The wood was a darker walnut with a satin finish. Most Remington Wingmasters have a lighter walnut with that high gloss finish. I found this interesting.

The price was $650, just about the same price as new Wingmaster. I mentioned the price disparity to the manager and he said the gun is virtually brand new. I copied down the S/N and called Remington to get the date of manufacture. 1991! The thing is eighteen years old!

Does anyone know if Remington made a darker walnut stocked Wingmaster version with satin finish? If so, it might be possible the condition of this gun is used but mint condition. And if that is true, what should its value be?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Satin finish was very common in the sixties and older from what I can tell. My 870 wingmaster has the high gloss finish which was indicative the 70's and 80's and into the 90's.
Mne is a early 70's magnum with nice checkering and gloss finish. Mine is in the same condition as you described, but I doubt I could get more 500.00 for it. Guys say the older ones are better than the newer ones. Action is smoother and better quality. I don't know enough about the newer ones to call that a fact.
17 yrs. old really isn't that old, but in mint condition it will bring top dollar as a used gun.
650.00? I don't think so.
