I'm trying to find out the value of a 7mm Mauser that looks to have some type of Israeli or middle eastern writing on it. It has a crest on the top of the barrel that looks like a flame surrounded in some type of circular wings. on the left side of the barrel it has a stamping that says M24/47 and some weird writing like NPEAY3EKE 44. The bolt has a straight un curved handle. Both the bolt and the same number 1759. Then on the bottom of the bolt handle it has a different number 689. There is an X stamped on the sight that can only be seen when you pick up the numbered sight. There are markings on the metal piece where the stock rests on your shoulder that read someones last name: M SCHMIDT.
Everything looks like it is original, Nothing seems to be altered other than the name on the butt of the stock. Wood seems to be in good condition, and the gun has fired at least 70 tMM bullets in the last year. Is there anyway to find out what year, and or what the value is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hello,,your rifle is a very typical mauser these days and many many have been imported from yugoslavia,,the crest your refering to is the comunist yugoslavian crest used when rearsenaled,,and the other writing is the factory and date of rework,,check near the end of the barrel and see if there are any import stamps,,usually found on the underside of the barrel near the front site in very very small letters that you may need a magnifying glass to see... i would also recheck the caliber ,,all of the ones i've seen are 8mm mausers not 7mm and thats another reason to look for an import mark as this usually also gives the caliber along with the country of origin ,,most i've seen have matching serial numbers and most are pretty clean,,,,

,,value wise original full stocked models with all military wood and metal matching will bring 150-200 in decent condition with a good bore.. if it's extra clean or unissued or non import stamped it could bring another 50 bucks to a collector ,,there fun to shoot and ammo was pretty cheap but it's starting to go up like comercial ammo these days ,,,,

Curt,

Thanks for your help. I don't recall seeing anything on the underside of the tip of the barrel except for a funky looking a like letter, I would suspect a yugoslovian mark. It is all over the place. I'm pretty sure that the ammo was 7mm, but I could be wrong. I described the gun to the guy at the gun show, and he handed me 70 rounds in one of those cloth belts. For the life of me I can't remember what it is called. I believe the rounds were $15. The only ones I could find at the gun shop were $30 for 5 rounds.

Anyway, would this be a good hunting rifle? or is it too small. I was thinking about putting a scope on it for deer season, but wasn't sure if the old gun would be safe/usable in that kind of situation. I've also heard that the full metal jacket ammo isn't a very moral ammo to hunt with.

Have a great day, and I love the site. Full of interesting info.
