hello your link is asking for a password to view the pics ,,try posting one here so i can see what ya have ,,the k-98 mauser was a german model chambered for 8mm,,not 7mm,,there are some south american countries that used large ring mausers that used the 98 action that were chambered for the 7mm caliber but they weren't k-98's,,so i need a picto tell what ya have ,,is there any markings on the receiver ring or the side rails ?and is there a import stamp on the rifle?if so what does it say?

i also have a 7mm mauser. it has 1901 stamped on stock. 7mm on barrell, states where it was made right above the breetch, no crest above chamber. i thought it was a m988, well i was told it was from the guy who i bought it from, but on the underside where you can take out the cartriges on the metal plate, it says h988. i contacted Mauser, sent pics and all numbers that i could find and they said they dont have records on any gun before the 1930's and that they just took over the company a few years ago. i've been told that its a spanish Mauser but i know its not due to it having any rings on stock (front or back) it has the flip sights on top.
any info would help alot

hello guys ,,sorry i don't do much on the weekends ,,after looking at your picas i gotta say i'm a little puzzeled on your rifle ,,heres what puzzels me ,,first off is the k-98 markings ,,these will typically be found on german rifles but they usually have something on the receiver ring also like a date or arsenal ot where made ,,next thing that odd is the side sling bar on the stock,,this is typically spanish,,german rifles will either have a sling slot cut into the stock or a lower sling swivel,,also the grasping groove is found on spanish rifles and not often on german rifles ..are you absolutly sure it's 7mm mauser ,,the k-98 large ring action is typically found on 8mm mauser rifles,,i beleive ther was a steyr made large ring mauser made for a south american country ..i think brazil that may have been chambered for 7mm mauser but it should have had a crest on the receiver ,,this could have been scrubbed or removed when it was cut down but thats tough to tell,,so many countries used the mauser rifles and many countries made them then sold them to south american and other axis countries which in turn would mark them with there coats of arms and side rail markings ,,how long is the barrel and would it be possible to get a pic of the front site ?also the pic with your markings and serial number behind the front site ..is there any way of getting a good pic of the markings under the serial number ,,i may be able to pick out a proof that might tell me a country,,if possible ..

,,in any event i can tell you that being sporterized will not help the value to a collector because to bring it back to original military configuration would not proably be cost effificent,,and would proably be very hard to return to original ..because parts that are missing may be very hard to find for the exact model,,in the condition it's in i'd put a value on it of around 175-200 to someone looking for a good hunting rifle,,or as a parts rifle for someone looking for specific parts

hello again,,guys ,,first off hunterdude ,,are you absoutly sure this is a 7mm mauser ,,the action is a k98 mauser action but they are typically 8mm mauser caliber ,,there were some 7mm large ring mausers sent to south american countries and some were 7mm ,,the odd thing about yours is the k-98 stampings,,the only country that i'm aware of useing this marking is germany but i'm gonna do some more research on it ,,if it said model 98 i could see it being another country,,but that satmp is german,,the other countries that used the 98 action usually marked ther rifles on the side where yours is marked with the country and year ,,in any event your rifle has been cut down

Hi Curt. Well all I know is my Dad told me this was a German 7MM Mauser that he got before coming home from the Korean War in 1952.I have shot 7MM shells through it a few times and it shoots excellent.I see there are a lot of numbers in a few places on the rifle 1) 54 on top on the clip chamber 2)67 on the sight 3)A8 on the bolt 4)95 on the safety. The barrel is a little less than 18 1/2 inches long to the sight. I will try and answer any more question you have.
