I went to a farm auction and purchased an old gun. No name on it. All is has is a faded serial number. The farmer said it was a 7mm. I think it is a 7mm-08 - i bought a box of shells and fired it. Drop clip - hold five. works well. I am not even sure it is a 7mm-08 how do i find out the make and model, value and real size. Thanks

hi cheesehead,
your best bet is to take it to a gunsmith so that he can determine the chamber, dropping a 7-08 in a rifle your not sure it is chambered for is VERY DANGEROUS, the rifle could just as easily have blown up in your face. Seriously i wouldn't fire this weapon again until it's checked out by a compitant gunsmith. JMHO

Thanks for the advise. I shot it about 10-15 times and the bullets move in and out well. He said it was a 7mm. I have a 7mm rem mag and shell is monster compared to a 7mm-08 - is there any site that can tell you the year make and model?

hi cheesehead,
you'll need to know who manufactured it to find out. site unseen i'ld guess it's a 7mm mauser rechambered to 7-08, i'm not sure how close a 7-08 is to 7mm mauser or whethr or not you could chamber one into the other, the 7mm mauser is a longer cartridge than the 7-08 and the 7-08 might feed into the 7mm mauser, but personally i'ld have to have a gunsmith assure me of the caliber i'm shooting. and they'ld be better able to tell you what you have.
