I have a 38 Winchester Model-1892 Ser# 733XX that my dad pass down to me. Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured. Also , He tells me it's a 38-40 but it calls out 38 WCF on the receiver. Is this right? Thanks...

your winchester 1892 rifle was made in 1912 and he's correct it was made in 38-40 ,,there were several grades and book values vary with grades and can go as high as 10,000 and as low as 400 depending on condition and which grade it is..this is a good canditate for a professional appraisal from someone knoledgable in winchester rifles,,you can check some of the gun auction sites for current auction values like gunbroker.com or guns america,,or auction arms,,try a search on these sites on "winchester 1892"..or "1892 winchester",,should bring up a bunch and you will proably be surprised what they are bringing..

some came with round some came with octagon and some were 1/2+1/2,,some came with 1/2 lenght mag tubes some came with 2/3's lenght tubes and some came with the full lenght tubes,,some came with straight grip stocks some with a pistol grip,,it was a buyers choice back then and it depended how much ya wanted to spend and what struck your fancy,,they made a little over 1 million between 1892 and 1932,, they also made different barrel lenghts from 14" to 30"muskets,,,,back then you could pretty much "have it your way"..,,all of the special features usually bring a preimium and sometimes distinguish the models apart from each other..great hand me down rifle and will continue to raise in values over the years to come
