HELLO ,,if its a krag model the serial number is on the left side of the receiver ,,only problem is they didn't issue krag rifles during ww2 they issued springfield rifles ,,pre ww1 would have been issued krag rifles ,,the krag was used during the spanish american war with teddy rosevelt,,is your rifle still in military configuration ?or has it been sporterized? or cut down..things i need to know,,also if it's a krag it should have a date on the same side as the serial number,,a pic would be nice to make sure what you have,,

hello and welcome feel free to stay awhile and jump in on anything you can give some imput on ok ,,so ya got an old 1898 krag rifle ,,before i give you a value i'll give you some things to look for that will increase or decrese the value ,,it should be stocked to about 3 or 4 " from the end of the barrel,,should have 2 barrel bands and a have an upper handguard ,,the receiver should be marked US/model 1898,,there shouldn't be any holes where someone may have mounted a scope ,,the stock should look like it's 100+ years old and the metal finish may be a patina ,,thats what the collectors will look for in a original military rifle ,,also a very important item to look for is stock cartouches,,they would proably be on the left side around the wrist aera of the grip ,,may be letter inside a box ,,if there present thats a BIG plus to collector ,,if someone refinished the stock they may have sanded them out but as long as nothing else was changed then you still have a very good collectable rifle ,,with all that said now for the values ,,book prices for the 1898 rifle model are 700 good -around 1500 excellent,,and the 1500 is a seeable price on the krags these days at auction or to the right collector providing its correct ,,gunshops still haven't come up to speed with most military firearms and will try to buy that old closet gun thats been sitting collecting dust for many years for practly nothing and may offer 200-300 and most people unless they know better would jump on that number and think they made a good deal,,but i haven't seen even a cutdown krag around my parts lately for less than 5-600 so if yours is correct and ya want to sell think about selling it online at one of the auctions gun sites or check out local gunshows in your aera for military collectors and i wouldn't sell it for any less than 700-750 if your really in need of cash..if it's correct..

I think I'm doing this right. I would like to know the value of my Krag. I've been all over the internet and the pricing is very confusing. It's a Model 1898 Springfield Armory S/N 109976. It's all original with no modifications attempted. A local gun shop recomended I clean the wood with Murphy's oil soap, and it's now 10 shades lighter, mostly from cigarette smoke. Very little rust, and the bore is clean. He ordered some special bore cleaner for me to use. He said don't be afraid to fire it, it's the best one I've seen in years! The confusing part is that I see many of them on the internet in the same condition, but the prices range from $400 to $2500. I would like to sell it, but as you point out, you have to fine the right person. Thanks for your help. Novicerick

hello,,the 1895 winchester is very collectable ,,but it all depend on which model you have ,,there was a musket with a 28" barrel a carbine with 22 " barrel and the sporting rifles came in either 24 or 28" barrel and they all have different prices ..id say without knowing wihch one you have at least 800-1000,,but that figure might double for rarer models ,,but everything depends on the rifle being original and not altered in any way,,original finish on metal and wood are essential for collectors intrest..

I have a 30-40 Krag, U.S. Springfild Armory Model 1898, serial # 91430 It appears to have a 29" barrel, with approx. 12.5" exposed beyond the stock. It has flip-up miltary sights. I used to deer hunt with it as a kid. I am interested in selling or trading-- where is the best place to check out it's value in Maine-- LL Bean, Kittery Trading Post? Cabella's-- some other gun shop? Thanks...

hello,,it sounds like you have a 1896 rifle and sounds like it 's still in original condition,,these have jumped in value in the past 5 years to be worth around 800-1000 minimal..nice examples will sell for around 1200+ with correct marked stocks and all original,,cabellas would proably be the one i'd check out but i don't know much about your aera ,,i'd also look for local larger gunshows ..there are usually alot of military collectors who will attend the larger shows ,,sometime it can be tough to find a buyer for ,ilitary rifles that will pay the prices there worth

,,but heres another option ,,if it is an 1896 model you could sell it online on one of the auction sites like gunbrokers.com,,being made before 1898 it is concidered as an antique under the atf&e's guidlines,,and anyone who can purchase a firearm in there state can buy it off of you with a copy of there current drivers licence and an antique statement signed by them stateing they can own a firearm and there are no state or local laws forbidding the purchase of a antique firearm from another individual ,,antiques do not require dealer to dealer transfers and as long as there are no state laws in your state reguarding antique rifle sales you should be within the atf's guidelines ,,you can list it on gunbrokers but if you do try to take good clear pics and writ a through description and show proof marks and any marks that a collector would like to see,,this may be your best line for collectors to see what you have ..and your cost will be gunbrokes fees for selling ,,if ya need any help listing drop me a pm and i can give ya some pointers for key features to sell it ,,
