I have 2 30/40's I got from my grandpa. One is s/n is 172xxx the other 456xxx. The 456xxx has a shorter barrel 22" the other a 24". Both have redfield sights. The 172xxx has been sportorized. What is the original barrel length and sights? What are these rifles worth? I can swear that when I shot these rifles as a kid one of them had peep sights on it.

They are 1898's. Did peep sights come stock on these? I think my dad or grandpa may have taken the peep off and put on the redfield. I have pictures but not sure how to upload on this forum. Thanks

i'm not aware of any other sites used on Krag except battle sites,,the 1898 krag rifle should have a 30"barrel ,,the carbine model would have a 22" barrel,,the carbine model will be forund in serial number 118,000-134,000 range ,,

...post a pic by clicking the browse button below ,,find the pic and double click it from your list ,,and it should upload ,,try to keep your pics at 640x480 and they should be fine ,,if you want to add more than on just click reply and add another one ..

..it sounds like both your krags may have been sporterized at some time ..and thats pretty common with them,,value goes from collector value to a hunting rifle value which is much lower than an original as issued rifle and i'd say if at least a nice looking sporter they would proably bring around 250-300,,in the private sale market,,mabey a little more to someone looking for krag parts ..
