thats really hard to say from the breif description you gave ,,are there any other markings on the receiver or barrel?could be anything from a sporterized mauser to a model 70 winchester ,,need something to go on as for the maker,,before id even venture a guess ,,proof marks or dates or something,,alot of 30-06's were made since the caliber was introduced in 1903..if nothing is marked on it how about posting a pic and let me see the receiver ,,mabey i can pick something out from your pic..
