how to tell how old my REMINGTON 30-06 742 WOODMASTER is the s/n is 211xxx?

remington used a date code marked on the barrel ..usually on the left side ,,will be 2-3 letters and the first letter will be the month and this is the system they used for month of manufacture BLACKPOWDERX with B being january-X for december then the sceond or 2+3 being the year ..so ya need both to tell your year and month,,if you post the code we can proably tell ya the year..

I JUST GOT HANDED DOWN GRANDPA'S REMINGTON 30-06 WOODMASTER FROM DAD! I LOVE IT. i would like to see about my remington 30.06 it was given to my dad brand new in 1970 it is a woodmaster with the game scenes engraved a deer on the right side a bear on the left the letters i see on it are gi then it has brk46 the sn is 126012 it also has a m on the right side and a heart beside it what is the value of a gun like this it is a semiautomatic with a 4 shot clip

For all those that want to find the date of manufacture by using the barrel date codes.

Here is a link that explains where they are on the barrel (just ahead of the receiver on the left side of the barrel) and how they work.

Contacting Remington Customer Service with the serial number is the best way to verify date of manufacture and will also provide you with information as to exactly what model / version your firearm left the factory as.

I don't have my chart with me and don't have it memorized but I do know that marking puts you pre '67. Mine is XP, which is Dec. 1967.
