hello,,your rifle was made at the eddystone arsenal in pa.they were built as an alternative to the springfeild rifle and originally built for the british during ww1,,the british version was the p-14 and the us model was the 1917 or p17 as it's sometime refered to.. there also refered to as the 1917 enfield because the original contract rifles were made and sold to the british but chambered for the 303 enfield cartridge and the enfield name kinda stuck with them,,these were made by remington ,winchester and eddystone,,a well built rifle and many have been the basis of sporting rifles because of the long magazine box and strong action in calibers up to 458 win mag,,the basic design was used on early remington sporting rifles,,the 1917 was used mainly as a home security rifle although they did see some action ..but mainly stayed in the us and were in service up thru ww2 in civil defence roles as well as some combat service ,,if yours is still in the original military configuration with all original eddystone (E) marked parts the value should be in the 400-600 range to a collector or at auction,,depending on condition..gunshop dealers don't pay much for the old military rifles because they beleive you don't know what you have.. and most look at them as hard items to move and make a profit on ...but there are military collectors out there.. ya just gotta advertize them right and the money will come..you should be able to find a wealth of informationon them by searching "1917 enfield"
