Wall,
I am a new moderator on the site and going back over some of the older posts to see if there is anything I can add. Did you ever get an answer?
Your rifle was produced in 1891. The .45-70 was one of ten calibers, and I believe the most popular which the rifle was chambered for. I will have to check to be sure. Some of these are extremely rare. There were a total of almost 160,000 of this model made. There were many variations from standard sporting rifles to deluxe rifle and saddle ring carbines. If you can give me a detailed description of the rifle or, better yet send some photots I'll be glad to tell you what I can.
The rifle in the photo is a standard sporting rifle with a beautiful case colored receiver. It was made in the year prior to yours.
Hope to hear back
